Obituary: Edward Lee Speakman

Edward Lee Speakman, 72, passed away on October 17, 2023. He was born in Plano, Texas, on May 27, 1951, to Walter and Helen Speakman.

Ed was a simple man who had a charming yet strong-willed personality. He also had a dry sense of humor, but once you got to know Ed you would find that he was very caring. Ed was a big history buff and loved to watch the History Channel or do his own research. He also loved to camp, fish, build furniture, and garden. Ed also liked to be involved in his community and was a Volunteer Firefighter for the Sulphur Rock Fire Department. He was also a very hard worker; and was a truck driver for 32 years. He also owned Ed’s Tire Repair shop in Magness and the Little Red Store in Sulphur Rock.

Ed was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend whose memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter Lee Speakman and Helen Charlene (Norman) Speakman; son, Bill Cody Speakman; sisters, Charlotte Miller and Brenda S. Speakman; brother, Howard Speakman; nieces, Charlotte (Sissy) Modlin and Taylor Speakman; and nephews, Donnie Miller and Austin Masterson. He is survived by his loving wife, Brenda Kay Speakman; sons, Jackie Ethridge Jr. of Batesville, Arkansas, and Clint Speakman of Sulphur Rock, Arkansas; daughters, Charlotte Jordan of Tumbling Shoals, Arkansas, Jeanna Speakman (Matthew) of Kingman, Texas; Rebecca Speakman of Fayetteville, Arkansas, and Stacy Garcia (Adam) of Bethesda, Arkansas; brothers, Gene Speakman of Louisiana, Walter Speakman of Judsonia, Arkansas, David Speakman of Judsonia, Arkansas, and Paul Speakman (Robin) of Desarc, Arkansas; sister, Doris Jenkins (Butch) of Sterling, Colorado; as well as sixteen grandchildren.

A visitation will be held at Willis Funeral Service on Friday, October 20, 2023, from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. A graveside service, officiated by Lonnie Turney, will follow visitation at Sulphur Rock Cemetery at 2 p.m.
