Batesville Pioneer football fans celebrated the dedication of the Stuart Carpenter Scoreboard at Pioneer Stadium at a recent home game.

Stuart Carpenter, fondly known as “Stu,” had emerged as a central figure in the heart of the Pioneer football community. In a media release announcing the dedication, the Batesville School District said Carpenter’s “…tireless dedication, steadfast commitment to the team, and warm, welcoming presence on the ‘chain gang’ had endeared him to players, coaches, and fans alike.”

Carpenter’s family was on hand for the dedication of the digital scoreboard, which was held during the Pioneers home game against Wynne on Oct. 13.

Carpenter passed away last year at the age of 56.

“On behalf of the Pulley/McSpadden family, we want to dedicate the scoreboard in honor of our good friend and colleague Stuart Carpenter,” said Phil Pulley, entrepreneur and founder of Bad Boy Mowers as well as owner of Outlaw Snax, in the district’s release. “Our family thought the world of Stuart. He was such a great man.”

Batesville Pioneers Athletic Director Dave King hands a commemorative Pioneer football to the Carpenter family at the dedication of the Stuart Carpenter Scoreboard.
