A McCrory man has been charged with first-degree battery on a law enforcement officer after an altercation with the Woodruff County Sheriff that sent both men to a Searcy hospital.

According to a release from the Arkansas State Police (ASP), the Woodruff County Sheriff’s Office requested an investigation by ASP investigators after an altercation occurred in a beanfield near Three Forks Road in Woodruff County at about 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 7.

The ASP release said Woodruff County Sheriff Phil Reynolds (pictured above), 57, and Joseph Rudick, 66, of McCrory, engaged in a physical altercation after the sheriff responded to assist in putting out a combine fire.

Sheriff Reynolds took Rudick into custody before contacting ASP for assistance. Both Reynolds and Rudick were transported to Unity Health Medical Center in Searcy for medical treatment.

The release said Rudick was arrested by state police on Wednesday and officially charged with first-degree battery on a law enforcement officer. State police noted additional information will be released as it becomes available.
