The Arkansas State Police’s Criminal Investigation Unit is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred overnight at a Jacksonville, Ark., Waffle House.

According to Arkansas State Police (ASP), Vashun Mayo, 31, was shot and wounded during the incident but is expected to survive.

The shooting occurred after authorities responded to a report of an armed robbery at the restaurant. When officers from the Jacksonville Police Department (JPD) arrived, the suspect fled into a wooded area and reportedly fired on the officers, an ASP release said. During the incident, the JPD officers also discharged their service firearms.

Mayo was taken into custody and transported to the hospital for treatment. No officers or restaurant patrons were injured in the incident.

The state police release said an investigative case file will be presented to the prosecuting attorney, who will determine whether the use of deadly force by officers was consistent with Arkansas law.
