A large group of volunteers turned out Saturday to help distribute boxes of food from “Christmas Brings Hope.”
Independence County Judge Kevin Jeffery (pictured below, left) started the day early with Christmas Brings Hope volunteer Arthur Montgomery (right). They picked pallets of frozen chicken up from an area poultry plant to deliver on the county flatbed to the Independence County Fairgrounds for distribution.
In recent months, county and city organizations and schools have helped with the food drive by collecting donated canned goods and non-perishable food items.
Those collections were combined with $20,000 to $25,000 worth of staple food items purchased by the Christmas Brings Hope board for the 1,200 boxes prepared for distribution.
Each box was hand-packed and taken by volunteers to the families who applied for the program this year. Volunteers included the Independence County Sheriff’s Department, area volunteer fire departments, the Batesville Fire Department, the Batesville Police Department, and others.
Monetary contributions are always welcome to the Christmas Brings Hope program by sending a donation in care of “Christmas Brings Hope,” and Karen Shaw, to Citizens Bank, 655 St. Louis St., Batesville, AR, 72501.
