Obituary: Johnny Joe ”Bo” Sims

Johnny Joe ”Bo” Sims was born on August 25, 1943, to J B Sims & Bessie Irene Kimble in the township of Black Oak. In his youth, he helped with farming. Then he ran a gas station. He worked for many years for Ace Pump. Johnny was also an excellent mechanic skilled in fixing lawnmowers.

Bro Johnny was baptized in Jesus’ name and filled with the Holy Ghost at the age of 36. He served as a pastor in Marion, an assistant pastor and later in life an evangelist.

Bro Johnny believed in marriage. He married Geraldine Elrod on April 15, 1963. Geraldine passed away on January 5, 2007. Sis Mable Huff and Bro Johnny were joined in marriage on May 6, 2007. Sis Mable passed away on April 15, 2012. Bro Johnny married Kathleen Prescott on March 16, 2013.

Johnny ”Bo” Sims is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Minnie Vance and Pearl Tyler, and a brother Joel ”Cooter” Sims. Johnnie Richards, a brother-in-law, Patsy Sims a sister-in-law and Effie Elrod, a sister-in-law also preceded him in death.

Johnny is survived by his wife Kathy, daughter-in-love Arleen, sons Johnny Wayne (Jenny) of White Plains, Kentucky; David of Allentown, Pennsylvania; and Ruth (Josh) of Stuttgart, AR. He leaves behind 10 grandchildren: Stephanie, Breanna, Caleb, Maddie, Anthony, Ashley, Nicole, Rachel, Joshua and Juliann; and 4 great-grandchildren: Anna, Haly and Nicole’s 2 children. Other relatives and many friends remain who remember Bro Bo’s faithfulness, loyalty, generosity and jokes.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, January 2, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bethel Chapel 1004 Hiram Road in Heber Springs and First Pentecostal Church of Lepanto on Wednesday, January 3 from 1 to 2 p.m. Funeral Service will be held Wednesday beginning at 2 p.m. at the church.

The interment will be at Potter Memorial Cemetery in Lepanto.
