Authorities in Cleburne County are investigating the discovery of human remains late last year.

In a social media post on Monday, Sheriff Chris Brown said deputies were dispatched to a wildlife management area near Warren Mountain Road in Wilburn on Dec. 31, 2023, after a woman exploring the area with her dog found a partial human skeleton. The woman’s dog had also located a gun a short distance away, according to Brown.

The sheriff stated that it is currently unknown whether the gun and the remains are related due to the distance between them.

Both the skeleton and the gun have been sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for DNA and other testing.

Brown said his department continues to investigate and will provide further information as it becomes available.
