Alerted to a residential burglary in progress early Sunday morning, Batesville Police officers arrested a man after they discovered him hiding in the bathroom of the victim’s home.

According to Independence County Circuit Court information, police officers were dispatched to the Pine Street residence just after midnight and were told a man had kicked in the home’s door and was inside searching for the victim. The court documents said the man, identified as Ernesto Trevino, 39, of Newark, was arrested after police found him hiding behind the bathroom door.

The victim told police Trevino had pointed an AR-15 in her face once last week and had also repeatedly threatened to kill her over the past few days, according to the court information.

Trevino’s arrest affidavit also said officers recovered suspected fentanyl and hydrocodone pills in his pocket, and in the living room of the residence, they discovered his phone and vehicle keys, along with a bottle of codeine, scales, a Ziplock-style bag containing suspected fentanyl, and a bag containing marijuana.

Trevino has been charged with one count each of trafficking a controlled substance (fentanyl), residential burglary, first-degree terroristic threatening, and possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance with the purpose to deliver, and two counts of possession of a Schedule II controlled substance with the purpose to deliver — all felonies. He is also facing one misdemeanor count of possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance with the purpose to deliver.

Trevino is currently being held in the Independence County Jail on a $750,000 bond.
