A group of Sulphur Rock EAST fourth-graders recently identified a critical need for a Safe Haven Baby Box in the Batesville area. These boxes are meant to provide a safe place for parents to surrender their newborns without being shamed or even identified. According to a release from the Batesville School District, the students noted the nearest baby box about 70 miles away.
The school district said Sulphur Rock EAST students work “…to inspire change through real-world experiences.” Due to the students’ efforts and thanks to a collaboration with a local hospital, the project was approved and a contract has been signed to make this happen, the release said.
