The Special Olympics Unified Bowling team from Batesville secured the state runner-up position for the 2023-2024 season. The team had a narrow loss to the Brookland Bearcats by two pins.

According to a release from the Batesville School District, under Coaches Hannah St. John and Ebony Brown, teammates Xavier Jackson, Beau Davis, Darent Hernandez, and Shekinah Johnson “…demonstrated remarkable teamwork and sportsmanship on the bowling lanes.”

St. John admired the Special Olympics Unified teams, emphasizing the seamless collaboration between athletes and partners.

“Special Olympics Unified teams are so amazing to watch. It can often be hard to tell who is a partner and who is an athlete because they all work together so cohesively, which is 100% the goal. The Batesville Unified Bowling team worked so hard for this victory. As coaches, Ebony and I could not be more proud of these kids and the effort they put in. They deserve every accolade,” said St. John.
