Alice Jane (Long) Thomas, aged 86, was born on July 9, 1937, to Grace Magness Long and Bro. Silas Luther Long in England, Arkansas. She left this earth for higher ground in the early morning hours of February 8, 2024. She spent her childhood in Mt. View and a few other small towns in Arkansas until she made the long journey to California with her parents. While in California, Jane got reacquainted with Stone County native V.R. ”Jack” Thomas and they were married on July 10, 1955, which was officiated by her father, Silas Long. A son and daughter completed their family. Although there were years spent in other Arkansas towns, Mt. View was always calling Jack and Jane home. Jane happily spent the last 40-plus years in Mt. View.
Jane came to know the Lord as her savior at an early age and took her relationship with Him very seriously. She was a powerful prayer warrior, always faithful in service to Him. Jane enjoyed being in the garden, pulling weeds and planting all varieties of flowers from sunrise to sunset.
She always had a needle, thread and thimble and tedious handwork by her side and has left a legacy of quilts to keep her memory alive. It wouldn’t be a surprise to her family and if she hadn’t fashioned a thimble out of a nugget of gold. She loved to play the piano and in her early years taught others to play as well. It was easy to coax her to play for a sing-a-long or play a favorite like Golden Tomorrow.
Those she leaves behind to lovingly remember her quick wit and funny phrases are her son, Randy Thomas and wife, Susan and her daughter, Rhonda Bennett and husband, Marty; granddaughters, Sarah Jayne Thomas and Lori-Beth Fowble and husband, Arin and their children, Addison Smith, Price Smith, Easton Fowble and Olivia Jayne Fowble; grandsons, Brent Bennett and Tyler Bennett and wife, Megan and their daughter, Sadie Grace Bennett and brother-in-law, Don Thomas.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 61 years, V.R. ”Jack” Thomas and great-granddaughter, Karley Jayne Bennett.
The family would like to thank Dr. James Zini for his compassionate care of Jane for many years, as well as the nurses from Legacy Hospice and the staff at the Blossoms.
A visitation will be held Sunday, February 11, 2024, from 1 PM until 2 PM at the Roller Crouch Funeral Home Chapel with a service to follow at 2 PM with Brother Luther Branscum officiating. The interment will take place at Levisy Flat Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Brent Bennett, Tyler Bennett, Arin Fowble, Greg Smith, Ritchie Thomas and Joey Thomas. Honorary pallbearers are Harold Allcorn, David Balentine and Billy Don Long.
