Marsha Hammer, 75, passed on February 8, 2024. She was born on April 12, 1948, to Tressie Alice Hudson and John Tazwell Hudson in Charleston West Virginia.

Marsha met David Michaelle Hammer and they were married in 1970.
She is survived by David and stepdaughters Debra Ward, and Michealle Smith, three step-grandchildren and lots of great-grandchildren.

Marsha had a love for Bluegrass. She started attending Bluegrass festivals and gospel singings in the late 1970s. The first Dobro that Marsha had was a 1935 Nashville Dobro. She started taking lessons and learned to play and read music. After her talent improved she bought a 1984 Hound Dog Dobro and played with a gospel group called Israel Lights. The group played at churches and other Bluegrass events. Marsha attended and played at many jam sessions and learned to play with a lot of different people. In the early 1980s, she was in a group that was formed at the time called Poke Salad Pickers and at played Bluegrass events which ended in 1990. Marsha and some other ladies got together and formed the group known as Chicks with Picks, and they played in Mississippi and Louisiana events. Then along came Molley. Molley was their baby puppy who is now thirteen years old. Marsha loved Molley and they all three enjoyed going for rides in the golf cart. David and Marsha moved to Mountain View in 2013 and has been playing Bluegrass ever since. Marsha went to the court square and played every Tuesday at the Jam. She has played at the Jimmy Driftwood Barn for seven years and on the Court House Stage, Senior Citizen’s Center, and at the Pickin’ Park and at Pleasant Grove. Marsha has made a lot of good friends and music throughout her time on earth and plan on playing Dobro for God and His Angels, for she knew that it is God who gives life and talent to play and that it was not in her own ability but she gave God all the honor and glory for the life He gave and the gift and talent to play her Dobro.

Marsha is survived by her husband, David Hammer; and her two step-daughters, Debra Ward and Michaelle Smith.

Marsha is preceded in death by her parents, John and Tressie Hudson.

Marsha will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
