Obituary: Earnest Leroy Mitchell

Earnest Leroy Mitchell of Bradford, passed away from his earthly home on February 9, 2024, in Newport, Arkansas, at the age of 83. He was born July 2, 1940, in Bradford, Arkansas, the son of Herbert, Sr., and Tessie (Johnston) Mitchell.

Leroy dedicated several years of his life to working at American Lantern in Newport. He was an active member of his community and served on the Bradford City Council. In the 1990s, he was elected as the Mayor of Bradford and also volunteered with the Bradford Volunteer Fire Department.

He enjoyed meeting and conversing with people, and he could tell some captivating stories. He had a passion for horses and frequently attended horse shows. He also enjoyed the casino.

Above all, Leroy cherished spending time with his family.

Leroy was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Robert Larry Mitchell and Herbert “June” Mitchell, II; and his stepson, Bronson Dinwiddie.

He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Noma Jean (Adams) Mitchell of the home; and his children, Lisa C. Treece and husband, Steve, of Bradford, and Dennis Mitchell of Fayetteville; as well as five step-sons, Tommy Odom of Ward, Dale Limbert of Bradford, Doug Limbert of Bradford, Keith Limbert and wife, Beverly of Jonesboro, and Henry Limbert of Fair Oaks.

Also surviving are his siblings, Nina Mayhue of Bradford, Gwena Sanford and husband, R.A. of Bald Knob, Cathy Blevins and husband, Danny, of Newark, and Paul Mitchell and wife, Linda, of Searcy; one uncle, D.L. Johnston; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins; and a lifetime of friends.

Graveside services are 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at Hickmon Cemetery, with Mr. Danny Blevins officiating.

Members of the Bradford Volunteer Fire Department will serve as pallbearers.
