Clemmie Crite, 81, of Newport departed this life on March 8, 2024. He was born in Swifton on July 29, 1942, to Will H. Crite SR., and Arma Lena (Kirk) Crite.
A versatile and skilled individual, he mastered a multitude of trades, lending his expertise to various projects. Watching NBA games brought him great enjoyment, highlighting his passion for sports. As a Mason and member of the I.B.E.W Union, he embodied principles of brotherhood and camaraderie. He held strong to his faith as a member of the Greater Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church. Cherished dearly as a husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend, his love and warmth touched many lives. In the memories of those who knew him, he will be fondly remembered for his talents, kindness, and unwavering friendship, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and love.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Clayburn “Jack” Sprawling, his sister, Shirley Long, and his grandchild, Raphael Crite.
He is survived by his wife, Lonnie Mae Crite of the home; his sons, Ira Crite (Elizabeth) of Newport, Christopher Crite (Melissa) of Chicago, Illinois; his daughter, Ave Loren Crite of Newport; his brother, Will H. Crite Jr.; his sister, Jean Borders; his grandchildren, Ashley Crite (Cedric), Antoine Crite (Elizabeth), Damien Thompson, La Paul Crite, Jalyn Stokes-Crite, Amanda Stokes-Crite; his great-grandchildren, Gydance Stewart, Victory Washington, Nehemiah Crite, Alana Crite, Ke’Ira Crite, Kenslie Christopher, Kyrie Crite and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Service will be at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, March 15, 2024, at Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until service time.
