Donald Allen Schulz (Donnie) departed this life on Thursday, March 14, 2024, at the age of 54.
Donnie Schulz, born on January 25, 1970, in St. Joseph, Michigan. His family later moved to Arkansas where he attended Swifton High School, graduating with the Class of 1988 Pirates. Donnie found his life’s calling in law enforcement, He was a dedicated servant and was passionate about Law Enforcement. He served in many roles in the field throughout his career including The National Guard, Newport Fire Department, Lieutenant at the Newport Police Department, The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department and School Resource Officer for Newport School District. He was also a licensed Ham radio operator. Renowned for his umpiring skills, he volunteered extensively at sporting events all over the state and spent many years volunteering at different sporting events for Newport including Basketball, Baseball, Softball and League Ball at George Kell Park. A testament to his dedication, he was named Hometown Hero in 2011 and had the Newport School District Command and Control Center named in his Honor in 2023. He was a former member of the NHS school board and was loved by all faculty, staff, and students. Donnie’s legacy of service, love, and devotion lives on through his wife, children, grandchildren, parents, siblings, extended family, friends, and beloved dog Nelly.
Donnie is survived by his wife Mindy Washam Schulz of 28 years. Two sons, Bryson Schulz and wife Bree, Hayden Schulz and wife Katlyn. Two Daughters, Lacy Schulz Frost and Husband Jesse, and Destiney Schulz. He was “Pops” to his two grandsons James Allen Schulz and Daniel Robert Schulz. His parents Rick and Jeanette McGuire. Three Brothers, Michael Schulz and wife Brandy, Johny McGuire and wife Amee, and Robby McGuire and a host of other family and dear friends.
Donnie was preceded in death by his father Robert “Bob” Schulz, his maternal grandmother Lillian Burnett and mother-in-law Kim Washam.
Honorary pallbearers are Newport Police Officers and Jackson County Sheriff’s Department officer’s current and retired.
Graveside service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, March 18, 2024, at Walnut Grove Cemetery with James Duvall officiating. Visitation will be from 2:00-5:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 17, 2024, at the Newport Field House.
