According to a release from Independence County Sheriff Shawn Stephens, three individuals have been arrested in connection with a string of recent vehicle break-ins.
Stephens said his office received reports of 19 vehicle break-ins in the early morning hours between Wednesday, March 13, and Thursday, March 14.
On Thursday, deputies identified suspects and located their vehicle a short time later.
Upon initiating a traffic stop, the sheriff said the three suspects were initially inside the vehicle, but one fled on foot only to be apprehended shortly thereafter.
The arrested suspects have been identified as Ottis Gifford Bailey, 27; Devon Harper, 19; and Marillo Leon, 19. All three individuals were taken into custody and transported to the Independence County Jail.
Stephens said the investigation remains ongoing, and upon completion, the case will be forwarded to the 16th Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney’s office for potential charges.
The Independence County Sheriff’s Office credited the cooperative efforts of the Arkansas State Police and the 16th Judicial Drug Task Force in apprehending the suspects.
