Monroe King of Swifton, Arkansas, departed this life on Sunday, March 31, 2024, at the age of 75. He was born September 1, 1948, in Newport, the son of Ray Monroe and Erma Lee (Hulen) King.

Mr. King was a member of the Swifton High School Class of 1966, where he was Homecoming King. He was a United States Navy veteran, serving in Vietnam.

Mr. King was a hardworking man who loved tending to his farm and keeping his yard neat. After dedicating 30 years of service to Arkansas Steel, he retired and began working as a meter reader for Farmer’s Electric. In his free time, Mr. King was an enthusiastic sports fan who enjoyed watching the Arkansas Razorbacks and NASCAR, particularly Richard Petty. He found great happiness in attending his family’s sporting events and occasionally playing pickup basketball himself. Above all, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother.

Mr. King was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret (Templeton) King; his parents; two brothers, Troy Lee King and Gary King; three sisters, Martha Sue Holman, Anna Shelton, and Linda Kinder; and his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Patty Ann (Norris) King of the home; one son, Adam King and wife, Tabitha of Mt. Vernon, Arkansas; one daughter, Kristen (King) Thielemier of Jonesboro; one sister, Phyllis Campbell and husband, Mike of Swifton; two grandchildren, Tate and Olivia; many nieces, nephews; and a lifetime of friends.

Friends may visit at Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 3, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 4, 2024, at the Swifton Church of Christ. Interment will follow in Arnold Cemetery.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Nick Templeton, Brian Templeton, Rodney Gilmore, Keith Gilmore, Bub Whitaker, and Darrol Campbell. Honorary pallbearers are Dennis and Jan Pridmore, Ken and Sue Anne Housh, Terri Lawrence, Jeanie Keton, Bobby and Debbie Gilmore, Toy and Anna Faye Lawrence; and members of the Swifton High School Class of 1966.
