Arkansas State University-Newport (ASUN) has announced Barbara Warren’s appointment as director of adult education.

Warren (pictured), whose 27-year career has included roles such as a state-appointed superintendent in southeast Arkansas and director of the Arkansas River Education Service Cooperative, brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to her new position,” ASUN said in a release.

She holds a Specialist Degree in Education Leadership from AState, a Master’s of Education in Educational Leadership from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, and a Bachelor’s in Business Education with a minor in Accounting from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.

ASUN’s Adult Education program supports over 450 students and serves as a key resource for adults seeking to enhance their skills and knowledge. It is tailored for individuals aiming to complete their high school education, improve literacy and numeracy skills, or prepare for new career opportunities. The program underscores ASUN’s dedication to personalized support and teaching. The mission is clear: to make learning accessible for all, empowering students with the tools and confidence needed for workplace success and beyond.

“Mrs. Warren’s leadership has already proven to be an asset to the Adult Education program,” said Amber Grady, dean for Community Outreach. “With the program’s focus on impacting the Arkansas workforce, I am confident that Director Warren will ensure collaborative initiatives with local employers, strengthening the program’s impact in our communities.”

Grady further highlighted the program’s role in the broader mission of workforce development.

“ASUN Adult Education is uniquely positioned to improve access and promote opportunities for education, career training, and support services. These are essential for individuals to succeed and support the advancement of our communities’ workforce.”

Warren shares her vision for the program’s future.

“I am so grateful for the opportunity to apply what I’ve learned throughout my career to Adult Education at ASUN. This program isn’t just about teaching; it’s about making a generational impact on students, their families, and the community at large. Everyone benefits from the improvements our learners make. I’m thrilled to be a part of such meaningful work in this incredible place. ASU-Newport is now my home.”
