Martha Ann (Patterson) Ray, 83, of Newport departed this life on Sunday, April 21, 2024. She was born on April 7, 1941, to Robert Wood Patterson and Lina Mae (Hembrey) Patterson.
Martha’s kitchen was her sanctuary, where she delighted in cooking delicious meals for her loved ones. Her flower garden was a reflection of her nurturing spirit, and watching the hummingbirds brought her immense joy. She cherished her role as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, finding fulfillment in the love she shared with her family. Martha’s warmth extended beyond her family circle; she was a loyal friend and a supportive sister. Her legacy of love, kindness, and culinary delights will forever be cherished by those whose lives she touched.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Anthony Patterson, Bob Patterson, and Ricky Benskin; her sister, Helen Smith; her daughter, Tanya Sweeney; and her son, Roger George.
She is survived by her son, Terry George Sr. (Carolyn) of Newport; her daughters, Rhonda Mann (Donnie) of Newport and Jamie Dobbs of Newport; her brothers, Thomas Patterson (Pat) of Swifton, and Jerry Patterson (Dana) of Newport; her grandchildren, Jason Joslin, Heather Vela, Terry George Jr., Sheree Haner, Greg Wagster, Lacy Shelton, Luke Wagster, Brittany Mann, and Elijah Dobbs; thirteen great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at Dillinger Funeral Home Chapel.
