Matthew Ward Montague, 52, of Hardy, Ark., died on Wednesday, April 17, 2024.
Matt was born on January 8, 1972, in Memphis, Tenn. (though he always considered Batesville to be his hometown) to the late Jack and Shirley (Ward) Montague. Matt was of Christian faith and was a member of Cord Baptist Church from an early age. He loved to fish, cook, and collect firearms. Matt was a firm supporter of a person’s Constitutional right to bear arms and loved collecting and shooting guns. Matt enjoyed being outdoors. He was particularly fond of the Spring River. He always said he would love to live near the Spring River and had recently made that dream a reality for himself and his wife, Crystal.
Matt was a very social person and never met a stranger. He loved to talk and meet people and always had a smile and a kind word to brighten everyone’s day. Out of all of Matt’s hobbies and passions, nothing meant more to him than his family. He was crazy about his grandchildren and loved taking them to the gun range to teach them how to shoot and about firearm safety. He was a loving husband, son, father, brother, grandfather “Poppy,” uncle, cousin, and friend. He was loved by everyone who knew him, and he loved them all right back. He will be dearly missed and forever loved by those who were blessed to know him.
Matt is reunited in Heaven with his parents, Jack and Shirley Montague, and his sister, Laura Montague. He is survived by his loving wife, Crystal Montague; his daughter, Madalene “Mattie” Montague; his bonus daughter, Kesha Clements (Eric); his brother, Michael Montague; his two grandchildren, Carson Clements and Chloe Clements; and his dog, Stormy.
Services are entrusted to Willis Funeral Service of Batesville, Ark. The Willis Funeral Service Chapel will host a visitation on Monday, April 22, 2024, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.
