Sheriff: Shooting at Desha Sunday afternoon; one in custody, one injured

A late afternoon shooting in Desha has left one person injured and another in custody.

According to Independence County Sheriff Shawn Stephens, deputies were called to the Desha community for a shooting just before 5 p.m. Sunday. Upon arrival, deputies located the possible shooter, who was detained.

One victim has been transported to White River Health for injuries sustained from the incident.

As of 6:45 p.m., Stephens said deputies were still processing the scene and investigating the incident.

The sheriff said more information would be released at a later time.

UPDATE, June 9, 2024, 10:40 P.M.:

Sheriff Stephens says Itrevone J. Sain (pictured above), 25, has been arrested. Stephens told Region 8 News Sunday night that Sain is currently incarcerated at the Independence County Jail, awaiting a probable cause at the hearing to determine charges.
