The Independence County Library will hold its inaugural Juneteenth Celebration, titled “Celebration of Freedom,” at the Library Loft on June 19, 2024, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

“Juneteenth commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States. It is a day to honor freedom, unity, and the ongoing pursuit of equality for all. In keeping with this spirit, the Independence County Library invites the community to join in an evening of celebration and inspiration,” the library said in a release announcing the celebration.

The event will feature distinguished guests, including Pastor Ira V. Crite, who will deliver the invocation. Renowned speaker Sharon Pruitt will share insights and reflections on Juneteenth’s significance and relevance today. Sonya Rucker will also perform “…with a captivating vocal performance, stirring hearts and minds alike,” the release said.

The library will also offer complimentary hors d’oeuvres.
