The Southside School District (SSD) has announced new leadership appointments at the Junior High for the 2024-2025 school year.

At the June school board meeting, the board approved the appointments of Torey Hanna (pictured above, left) as principal, Jonathan Edwards (center) as assistant principal, and Jon Johnston (right) as dean of students, according to a release from the SSD.

Hanna, who has been the assistant principal at Southside Junior High for the past two years, will step into the role of principal.

Hanna is enthusiastic about this new chapter and its opportunities for the school community.

“Without a doubt, I know I have the most dedicated and talented team to work with. Success is built on strong relationships, mutual respect, and open communication. Together, we can and will make our school excel,” Hanna said in the release.

Jonathan Edwards, the newly appointed assistant principal, previously served as dean of students at Southside Junior High. With his background in coaching, teaching, and administration, Edwards is known for his ability to connect with students and staff alike. His commitment to fostering a supportive and engaging learning environment will be invaluable in his new role, the release said.

Jon Johnston, who has been a part of the Southside community for 18 years and has worked as a coach and teacher, will assume the role of dean of students. Johnston has a long-standing connection with the school and is eager to contribute in his new capacity.

“I have loved Southside since my first day in 2006,” Johnston said. “I am looking forward to the change of pace in this new position and to helping these awesome junior high students achieve their goals.”

The Southside School District is confident this leadership team will bring renewed energy and vision to the school. Their combined expertise and dedication will enhance the educational experience for all students.
