Ona Marie (Brown) Shaw of Salado, Arkansas departed this life on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at the age of 93. She was born February 10, 1931, in Floral, the daughter of Charlie Alonzo “Lonnie” and Laura Isabel (Pitts) Brown.

Mrs. Shaw was a devoted educator for over thirty years, with the majority of her teaching career as a second-grade teacher at Oil Trough School District. She retired in 1986.

She loved the Lord and was a faithful member of Salado Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School, and Vacation Bible School, and served as Church Clerk. She was active in the Women’s Missionary Union, where she held many roles including State President.

She found enjoyment in piecing together and sewing quilts, working on puzzles and word puzzles, reading, and watching game shows. She was always up for a trip, even though she never learned to drive, and traveled all over the United States with her late husband, Harvey.

Not only did she see the beauty in everything around her, she found beauty in everyone she met. She greeted everyone with a hug, smile, and “would you like something to eat?”

Her love for everyone was evident and she loved her family wholeheartedly. She loved being Mom to her children, and “Granny Shaw” to her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

She was selfless and beautiful, both inside and out. Always putting others before herself and letting everyone know she was thinking of them with a phone call or card.

Mrs. Shaw was preceded in death by her husband, James Harvey Shaw; four brothers, Luther Ernest Brown, Oatner Gerald Brown, Charles Hugh Brown, and Bernice Otto Brown; three sisters, Gladys Pearl Boswell, Muriel Thomas, and Lavona Jean Amezcua; and her parents.

She is survived by her son, Don Edward Shaw and wife, Sharon, of Thida; two daughters, Glenda Kay Edwards and husband, Buddy, of Oil Trough and Melba Jean Shaw of Batesville; nine grandchildren, Danny Edwards and wife, Martha, of Tuckerman, Brien Edwards and wife, Kathy, of Oil Trough, Caramia Daniels of Salado, Shannon Plemons and husband, Jon, of Cushman, James Edwards of Oil Trough, Scotty Free and wife, Dana, of Batesville, Kenny Shaw and wife, Dee, of Oil Trough, Jason Shaw and wife, Cynthia, of Thida, and Ladonna Shaw of Thida; and many great and great-great-grandchildren.

Friends may visit at Jackson’s Funeral Home Tuesday evening, June 18, 2024, beginning at 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at Union Hill Baptist Church, with Bro. James Edwards officiating. Interment will be in Brown’s Chapel Memorial Cemetery.
