A Baxter County man died Thursday afternoon after his vehicle ran off a causeway and went into Lake Norfork.

According to the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office, Darren M. Martin, 31, of Gamaliel, died after his vehicle went off a causeway in Pigeon Creek Park and became submerged.

The sheriff’s office said Martin’s mother alerted authorities to the accident around 12:45 p.m. After emergency responders initiated a search, a park ranger in Pigeon Creek Park located vehicle parts and debris near the causeway around 2 p.m. Shortly thereafter, divers discovered Martin’s vehicle in about ten feet of water.
