Obituary: Gary Hamilton Burch

Gary Hamilton Burch, 75, of Concord, departed this life on Friday, July 19, 2024, in Batesville.  He was born to Patrick and Eleanor Mayden Burch on November 25, 1948, in Ogallala, Nebraska.

Gary began his career in law enforcement in Lincoln, Nebraska and was promoted to a training officer with the State Patrol in Nebraska, Utah, and Colorado.  He was a decorated law enforcement officer for over thirty-two years having served from 1967 until his retirement in 1999.  He became an elected Sheriff in Pawnee County, Kansas for eight years.

During his career, Gary was awarded many City and State awards from city mayors and state governors.  A highly regarded award, The Presidential Citation, was given to Gary by President Ronald Reagan at the White House in Washington, D.C.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Burch, of the home; his sons, James, Shawny, Keifer, ShadowHawke, GreyWolf, and ForrestWalker; his daughters, Annie, Trudy, Sara, and Dorian; his brothers, Brad and Guy Southwick; and twenty grandchildren, of whom he loved dearly; and also his “mini-me” granddaughter, Amber Ungs, who was more like a daughter to him.

Gary is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Gary, Mark, James, and Bruce, and his sister, Linda.

No service is planned at this time.
