The Independence County Library will host the second annual Super Sammy Lego Contest on Saturday, July 27.

According to a release from the library, the event celebrates creativity and community spirit while honoring the memory of Super Sammy Southall, a beloved Lego fanatic.

“We are excited to host the second annual Super Sammy Lego Contest,” said Carlene Morrison, director at the Independence County Library. “This event is a wonderful opportunity for Lego enthusiasts of all ages to showcase their talent and imagination.”

Participants of all ages are invited to compete in one of six divisions: Grades K-1, Grades 2-3, Grades 4-6, Teen, Adult, and Team/Family Entries will be accepted at the Independence County Library, located at 267 E. Main St., on Friday, July 26, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on Saturday, July 27, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. The public is encouraged to visit and view the creations from Saturday, July 27, through Wednesday, July 31, during regular business hours.

The winners of each division will be announced on Saturday, July 27, at 2 p.m. The library said this contest promises to be a fun-filled occasion for families and Lego fans. Prizes will be awarded based on creativity, originality, and presentation.

“With 54 entries last year, we are excited to see even more participation and enthusiasm this year,” said Morrison. “The Super Sammy Lego Contest will continue to grow.”

The Super Sammy Lego Contest is held in memory of Super Sammy Southall, who inspired many with his love for Lego building and creativity. Sammy, known for his joy in drawing, Pokémon, and Lego building, passed away on July 7, 2019, at the age of 12. This event is a tribute to his spirit and the things he loved most.
