Lyon College has been awarded second place in the nation for the United States College Athletic Association (USCAA) Director’s Cup.
The USCAA, a national intercollegiate athletics organization for 72 mostly small colleges, awards the Director’s Cup to highlight programs that “produce vibrant, diverse offerings and regularly compete for national championships,” the college said in a news release.
The Scots boasted nine First Team All-Americans and eight Second Team All-Americans across all USCAA-sanctioned sports.
Individually, Allison Byars was named Student Athlete of the Year, Casey Fowler was named Coach of the Year for Division I women’s basketball, and Emanuel Santos was named Coach of the Year for Division I men’s soccer.
Other honorees included Kylee Sabella, Paeton Tucker, Keeley Beary, Bethany Williams, Allison Byars, Savanna Lopez, Samantha Taylor, Natalya Kaza, Kylon McCullough, Frank Toney, Malik Madison, J.P. Morgan, Andrei Galca, Ronaldo Jacob (co-Defensive Player of the Year), Alex Eddie, Martin Esquivel, Gabriel Rangel, McKenzie Campbell, Olivia Orf, Sophie Varla, and Chloe McCance.
Five Lyon teams finished in the top four in the country: men’s golf (first place), women’s basketball (second place), volleyball (second place), men’s basketball (second place), and men’s soccer (third place). The Scots’ softball and baseball teams also finished the 2023-24 athletics season ranked eighth and 16th, respectively.
