Authorities are investigating the discovery of an apparent bullet hole in the window of the Independence County Judge’s office.

When Independence County Judge Kevin Jeffery entered his second-floor office in the courthouse today, he spotted broken glass that wasn’t there when he left the day before. Looking up to his window facing Main Street, the judge discovered an apparent bullet hole in the top portion of the pane.

Jeffery told White River Now this afternoon that Independence County Sheriff Shawn Stephens and other law enforcement have not located the projectile, but an investigation is ongoing to determine where the bullet was fired from. Authorities also plan to seek out any video from neighboring security cameras for potential information.

The judge said this was the first time he heard of a bullet being fired into the Independence County Courthouse, calling the incident “bizarre.”
