A Batesville man has been sentenced to 20 years in the Arkansas Department of Corrections after an Independence County Jury found him guilty of possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia on Aug. 9.

James T. Jackson, 55, was arrested in April 2023 when a car he was riding in was stopped for a traffic violation. He was found with more than two grams of meth in his pocket and was arrested at that time by Independence County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Aaron Moody.

Prosecuting Attorney Drew Smith and Independence County Deputy Prosecutor Kellye Barber presented the case for the state. The Sixteenth Judicial District Circuit Court Judge, the honorable Tim Weaver, presided over the trial, which was held in the Independence County Courthouse in Batesville.
