Authorities ID body found in Baxter County creek

UPDATE, Aug. 17, 2024: According to the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office, a fingerprint scan has determined the identity of the man found deceased in Moccasin Creek near the Izard County line on Thursday.

The decedent has been identified as Rickey Joe Millsap, 50, of Mountain Home.

In a statement on its website, the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office said the circumstances of Millsap’s death remain under investigation.

Baxter County authorities are investigating the discovery of a deceased male found floating in Moccasin Creek near the Izard County line Thursday morning.

According to the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office, the nude body was spotted by a motorist traveling on State Highway 5 South around 8 a.m. Deputies responded to the scene, confirming the presence of the deceased individual. Due to the advanced state of decomposition, positive identification has not yet been made.

The Baxter County Coroner’s Office removed the body from the creek and transported it to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory for autopsy. The medical examiner will determine the cause and manner of death, which is crucial to the ongoing investigation.

Deputies canvassed residences in the area to gather potential leads. Additionally, the Mountain Home Police Department deployed a drone to conduct an aerial search for evidence. However, officials said no additional information was obtained at this time.
