Lyon College kicked off the fall 2024 semester this week, welcoming new and returning students to campus for the start of a new academic year.
According to a release from the college, new students celebrated the conclusion of Scot Week orientation with a spirited cardboard raft race across Bryan Lake on campus, a beloved Lyon College Tartan Tradition that brought together the incoming class in a fun and competitive atmosphere.
Earlier on Wednesday, new students participated in a matriculation ceremony, where they formally signed the Lyon College honor pledge, committing themselves to uphold the values of integrity, respect, and academic excellence that define the Lyon College experience, the release said.
Week of Welcome, designed to ease the transition for both new and returning students, is busy with activities scheduled throughout the next week. Events include a movie night, silent disco, and campus-wide pool party — events, the college said, that are all aimed at fostering a sense of community and belonging as students settle into the new academic year.
