Mrs. Josephene Altie (Mason) Hawkins of Cord, Arkansas, departed this life Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at the age of 79. She was born February 23, 1945, in Newark, Arkansas, the daughter of Charles and Lottie (Riley) Mason.
Miss Josephene Mason married Mr. Robert Hawkins on December 9, 1962, and together they built a wonderful life. She was a graduate of Newark High School and went on to work in the factory at GenCorp until her retirement after 44 years. Mrs. Hawkins was a member of Newark Assembly of God.
Mrs. Hawkins enjoyed gardening, cooking for her family, and reading. She loved the outdoors and going to Black River to catch catfish. Mrs. Hawkins’ greatest joy came from spending time with her grandchildren, especially playing board games with them.
Mrs. Hawkins was preceded in death by an infant son, Richard Hawkins; four brothers, Charles Rocky Mason, Emmitt Mason, Paul Mason, and Sidney Mason; three sisters, Ruby Charlene Mason, Earnestine Melton, and Peggy Jean Mason; and her parents.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Robert Hawkins, of the home; her daughters, Patricia Ball of Russellville and Carrie Hawkins of Cord; two brothers, Joseph Mason and wife, Dorothy, of Emporia, Kansas and David Mason of Little Rock; a sister, Alice Bryant, of Eudora, Kansas; two grandchildren, John David Ball, Jr. of Russellville and Shamila Pinson and husband, Aaron, of Batesville; and four great-grandchildren, Natalie Pinson, Ethan Pinson, Mille Anna Pinson, and Freya Lynn Ball; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit at the funeral home Monday, August 19, 2024, beginning at 1:00 p.m. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Jackson’s Funeral Home Chapel, with Bro. Tracey Grissom officiating.
Honorary pallbearers are Aaron Pinson, Adam Fudge, Nicholas Melton, Theland Mullins, Jack Mullen, and John David Ball, Jr.
