A fire alarm at Midland School early Thursday morning triggered a swift response from local emergency services.
According to school officials, the fire alarm sounded around 8:10 a.m. The fire was located in the FACS/Art building. Midland staff and School Resource Officer Jason Cole immediately evacuated the affected building, ensuring no students or staff were in danger.
On his Facebook page, Independence County Judge Kevin Jeffery said the Pleasant Plains Fire Department and Floral Fire Department arrived and quickly extinguished the flames. Crews then ventilated the building and removed smoke.
While Batesville Fire Department and Southside Fire Department were also dispatched, they were later given the code to cancel the callout.
No injuries were reported during the incident, which was declared all-clear at 9:38 a.m. According to an article from Jonesboro news outlet KAIT, the fire is believed to be electrical in origin.
Local authorities praised the coordinated response from the Independence County Sheriff’s Office, Midland School staff, Pleasant Plains Fire Department, Floral Fire Department, Pleasant Plains Police Department, and OEM director Bill Johnson, who worked together to resolve the situation efficiently.
