Obituary: Fred J. Arnold

Fred J. Arnold, 91, of Greenville, Texas, formerly of Batesville, Arkansas, passed from this walk of life on Thursday, August 22, 2024, in Greenville.

He was born in Evening Shade, Arkansas, on October 20, 1932, the son of the late Shelby Lee and Maggie Ann (Qualls) Arnold. Fred served our country in the United States Army.

He was united in marriage to Betty Lou Mooney on July 9, 1959, in Byron, Arkansas. For 50 years, Fred attended church at Harrison Street Church of Christ in Batesville, where he served as a deacon, elder, Bible class teacher, and song leader. He was an extremely hard worker and retired at the age of 81. Fred worked at Boeing Aircraft in Wichita, Kansas, for seven years before moving to Batesville. After the move, he began working at Piggly Wiggly, then later worked for Dixie’s Supermarket for 31 years as assistant manager. His last job before his final retirement was in the sales department at KFFB Radio for 12 years. Fred was a people person and loved to help others.

Fred is survived by his wife of 65 years, Betty Arnold of Greenville, Texas; son, Brian Arnold and wife Teri of Royse City, Texas; brother, Noel Arnold and wife Pansey of Evening Shade, Arkansas; step grandchild, Jason Jumper; nieces, Janie Brown Smith, Carolyn Farris Clark and Linda Gail Arnold Miller; nephews, Alvis Brown, Roger Brown, Mike Farris and Timothy Arnold and many great nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Margie Arnold Brown and Mamye Arnold Farris and daughter, Christy Arnold Jumper.

Pallbearers include: Ted Hyslip, Steve Wells, Josh Wells, Charles Jordan, Collie Shaw and Jody Hill. Speakers will be Phillip Lloyd and Benson Hardaway.

Funeral services will be on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, beginning at 11 a.m. Agnos Church of Christ in Agnos, Arkansas. Interment will follow at Agnos Cemetery in Agnos, Arkansas. Visitation will be prior to the service beginning at 10 a.m.
