Southside School District welcomed students, teachers, and staff back to school for the 2024-2025 academic year.
The first day of school was Wednesday, Aug. 21, and according to a news release, the district was excited to kick off another year of growing “future stories.”
Superintendent Dion Stevens shared his enthusiasm for the upcoming year.
“We were thrilled to open our doors once again to the wonderful students of Southside School District,” said Stevens. “Our dedicated teachers and staff worked tirelessly to prepare for this moment, and we are committed to providing a safe, supportive, and enriching environment for every student to find and develop their ‘future story.’”
This year, Southside School District will continue its focus on developing innovative programs and fostering a positive school culture.
Several new initiatives are being introduced, including:
- Junior High and High School: The Southerner Academy is an innovative program designed to provide personalized learning pathways for students who thrive outside the traditional classroom environment.
- Middle School Update: New enrichment classes have been added for students. These include baseball, softball, intro to choir, hunter’s education, and several geography classes.
- Elementary Update: The elementary computer lab has been turned into a science STEM lab so students can learn how to work together to solve science and technology scenarios.
- Preschool Update: Additional fencing has been added to make the preschool playground bigger, and a new toddler playground will open in the coming months.
The district has also made significant progress on the construction of the new junior high and high school cafeteria and looks forward to serving students in the new building in the upcoming months, the release said.
