Obituary: Thomas James Hamel

Thomas James Hamel died unexpectedly in Charlotte, Arkansas on the morning of August 26th, 2024.  Born in Rome New York at Griffiss Air Force Base on 10 August 1990, he was the eldest son of Thomas J. Hamel and Kimberly (Gates) Hamel. Tom graduated from Murphy High School (2009) and the University of South Alabama (2019) where he earned a degree in Computer Engineering. Growing up, Tom played ice hockey, baseball, and chess.  He played trumpet in the Murphy High School Marching band. His fascination was with computers and electronics. He was a Controls and Automation Engineer at Hargrove and Associates in Mobile. He was a congregant of the Northside Bible Church where he played the bass guitar and sang in their worship band. An avid reader, Tom was also a writer of science fiction and fantasy works. He was always there to lend a hand to others, with a humorous quip at the ready with endless sci-fi movie line quotes in his verbal quiver to entertain. Tom also had a special relationship with his younger brother Michael whom he cherished deeply. Tom is pre-deceased by both of his grandfathers, James R. Hamel and George H. Gates, and by his grandmother Arline S. Hamel. Tom leaves behind his parents, his brother Michael J. Hamel, and his grandmother, Rita M. Gates, along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and a nephew from various locations across the USA. Arrangements are entrusted to Willis Funeral Service of Batesville, AR.

A memorial service will be held at the Northside Bible Church in Mobile, AL in October 2024.
