Wanda Faye (Thompson) Stapleton of Newport, Arkansas, departed this life on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at the age of 95. She was born June 6, 1929, in Twin Creek, Arkansas, the daughter of William Owen and Vietta (Gully) Thompson.

On February 19, 1949, Miss Wanda Fay Thompson exchanged vows with Mr. Calvin E. “Sonny” Stapleton. Their journey together lasted an incredible 63 years, during which they nurtured and raised their four children. Along the way, they carved out precious moments filled with joy and laughter, creating a lifetime of memories.

Mrs. Stapleton, a talented seamstress, dedicated many years of her life to creating beautiful drapes as a drape maker at The Gizmo Shop. Apart from her work, she found joy in quilting and nurturing her beautiful flower gardens. Most of all, she cherished the moments spent baking and creating sweet treats for her children and grandchildren.

She was a lifelong member of the Sandhill Church of Christ.

Mrs. Stapleton was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Calvin “Sonny” Stapleton; one great-granddaughter, Isabel Stonecipher; two sons-in-law, Steve Jones and Barry Hale; one brother, Homer Thompson; four sisters, Maudie Gillhan, Jewel Jeffery, Artie Thompson, and Mable Cooper; and her parents.

She is survived by two sons, Larry Stapleton and wife, Ann, of Tuckerman, and Doug Stapleton and wife, Charlene of Tuckerman; two daughters, Joan Kremers and husband, Ed of Jonesboro, and Phyllis Hale of Jonesboro; six grandchildren, Hollie Stonecipher and husband, Jerrod, Keith Babbs, Kristen Davis and husband, Brian, Lindsay Oliveira and husband, Glenn, Arron Stapleton, and Brian Stapleton and wife, Jody; nine great-grandchildren, Hannah Nutall, Addison Stonecipher, Maggie Stonecipher, Ryan Babbs, Alyssa Babbs, Juniper Oliveira, Elowyn Oliveria, Payton Stapleton, and Harper Stapleton; one sister-in-law, Jacquelyn Thompson of Newport; many nieces, nephews, and a lifetime of friends.

Friends may visit the funeral home, on Saturday, August 31, 2024, beginning at 1:00 p.m. Funeral services will follow at Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Brian Stapleton, Peyton Stapleton, Jerrod Stonecipher, Kenny Bible, Jason Sullivan, and Mitch Bowen. Honorary pallbearers are members of the Sandhill Church of Christ.
