Nearly $90,000 in grants will be distributed to five local nonprofit organizations to help revitalize outdoor spaces.
The grants, part of the Greenspace Enhancement Grant Program from Intimidator Group and The Toro Company, will be distributed to Lyon College, the Batesville School District, Main Street Batesville Inc., Old Independence Regional Museum Inc., and Thida Community Center.
Intimidator/The Toro Company said in a media release on Thursday that the funds will be contributed to projects that “enhance outdoor spaces and serve the community. “
According to the release, the grants will help the five organizations “enrich community greenspaces in Batesville, enhancing the quality of life for residents and creating vibrant, accessible areas that promote environmental stewardship, education, and social connection.”
The release said:
- Lyon College plans to utilize the grant to resurface bluff trails and improve accessibility for faculty, students and community members, ensuring everyone can safely enjoy the scenic pathways.
- The Batesville School District plans to create outdoor learning spaces designed to offer students hands-on, experiential learning opportunities. These areas will not only enhance academic experiences, but also foster a deeper connection to nature.
- Main Street Batesville will revitalize the Citizens Bank Pocket Park, establishing green areas and multifunctional spaces for seating, community activities, and unique plant sanctuaries.
- The Old Independence Regional Museum will develop a teaching garden, providing a serene space for visitors to relax, learn and appreciate nature. The garden will also feature areas for outdoor crafts, gardening projects, and cooking programs, providing educational and engaging experiences for all visitors.
- The Thida Community Center plans to build a park that will serve as a vital hub for physical activity, relaxation and social interaction, enriching the lives of residents in the community.
“We are so excited to support these well-deserving Batesville organizations as they revitalize outdoor spaces for community members to enjoy,” said John Swanson, Intimidator Group general manager in Batesville. “Each of these projects reflect our purpose to enrich the beauty, productivity and sustainability of the land while creating safe and functional spaces where our communities can thrive.”
