Scots women’s soccer drops 2-1 decision at Williams Baptist
WALNUT RIDGE, Ark.- The Lyon College Scots women’s soccer nearly tied the match in the final 15 minutes, but fell short 2-1 on Tuesday afternoon against the Williams Baptist University Eagles in Walnut Ridge.
The Scots (1-3) gave up two first-half goals, but Emma Rumore scored on an assist by Jessica Steele in the 59th minute to cut the WBU lead in half, 2-1.
A late header shot by Katelyn Balderas that would have tied the game was saved in the 78th minute.
Lyon College had 13 shots in the match, six in the first half and seven in the second, five were on-goal attempts.
Jessica Steele took one shot, Zoe Papazouglou had two shots, and Rumore took three, one of which found its way into the net. Millie Beller, Balderas, Emily Betzold, Nataly Furne, and Alexis Whitley all took shots on-goal for the Scots, as well.
Goalie Sydney Wolf played the entire game and seven saves.
The Scots host Central Baptist College on Saturday.
Lyon College women’s golf finishes second at Williams Baptist Fall Classic
KENNETT, Mo. – The Lyon College women’s golf team finished in second place of four teams at the Williams Baptist University Fall Classic at Kennett Country Club on Tuesday afternoon.
The Scots shot a 725 for the tournament (368 and 357).
Jesi Odom led the Scots with an 89 on Tuesday, finishing the tournament with 171. Madison Robb was next with an 89 on Tuesday and a total of 177. Emma Johnson shot an 85 and had 186 for the tournament. Zoe Anderson shot a 94, for a total of 191 for the two days, and Keylee Lyons shot a 117, for a total of 238.
Scots men finish second and fifth at WBU Fall Classic
KENNETT, Mo. – The Lyon College Scots men’s golf A team finished second, and the men’s golf team B was fifth overall in the final round of the Williams Baptist University Fall Classic held at Kennett Country Club in Kennett, Missouri on Tuesday.
The Scots A team ended the tournament with a two-day total of 591 (293 and 298), while the Scots B team placed fifth with a 608 total score (296 and 312).
Brooks Vanglider led Lyon College A team with a one-under for the tournament with a two-under 70 on Tuesday to finish with a total of 143.
John Blake Turner shot a 77 on Day 2 of the match and totaled 149. Ryan Kriz was also at 149 for the tournament after shooting a 74 on Tuesday. Michael Winn shot a 150 after a 77 on Tuesday and Madden Bentley shot an 85 to end with 163.
The Lyon College B team was led by Manav Perfecto with a 145 total after shooting a 76 in round two.
Isaac Gooch had a 77 on Tuesday to finish with a 153 score, Tyler Doucet shot an 80 and ended with a 154, Wes Lange shot a 79 on Tuesday for a 157 total and Robert Hopper was at 159 after shooting an 82 on Tuesday.
Scots volleyball drops first set, takes next three to secure victory at Central Baptist
CONWAY, Ark. — Lyon College volleyball returns after losing the first set to defeat Central Baptist College on the road.
The Scots (5-1) opened their match against the Central Baptist Mustangs (0-3) with a back-and-forth battle that saw them drop the opening set, 25-22. The turnaround came rather swiftly as the Scots answered by decisively taking the remaining sets by final scores of 25-14, 25-13, and 25-16, respectively.
Stat leaders for the Scots include sophomore defensive specialist Marti Flores, who led Lyon in digs (18). Junior setter Madeline Hopson led the way with 26 assists, and freshman setter Caroline Snow was not too far behind, picking up 23 assists of her own, along with two kills on three attempts. Senior outside hitter Kylee Sabella led the Scots in kills (16) and was second in digs (15). Junior outside hitter Cristen Cleveland also had a great performance, putting up 13 kills along with 13 digs.
The Lyon College volleyball team will return to action next week when they return to Becknell Gymnasium on Tuesday, Sept. 17 to take on Crowley’s Ridge College for a 6 p.m. start.
Scots Women’s golf in second at Williams Baptist Fall Invitational in Kennett
KENNETT, Mo. — The Lyon College women’s golf team is in second place at the Williams Baptist Fall Classic at Kennett Country Club after the first of two days in the competition.
The Scots are at 368 after Day 1, ahead of Williams Baptist and Missouri Baptist. They trail only to Bethel University (TN), who currently lead the women’s division with a score of 313.
Individually, sophomore Jesi Odom shot an 82, senior Madison Robb shot an 88, sophomore Zoe Anderson shot a 97, junior Emma Johnson shot a 101, and freshman Keylee Lyons shot a 121.
