Multiple fire departments responded to an early-morning fire that destroyed a Newark home on Sunday.

According to Independence County Judge Kevin Jeffery, the fire at Jonathan Anderson’s home was reported at 3:50 a.m. Jeffery said Anderson’s dog alerted him to the fire. Both escaped the structure without injury, though Anderson had no time to recover personal belongings.

After authorities issued an “all call” for manpower, Jeffery said fire departments from across the county responded, including Newark, Sulphur Rock, Oil Trough, Cord, Cushman, Batesville, Charlotte, Bethesda, Desha, Pleasant Plains, and Northside.

Responders also included Independence County Sheriff Shawn Stephens, Independence County OEM Director Bill Johnson, and Jeffery, who shared photos from the fire with White River Now.

Firefighters remained at the scene until 9:30 a.m. Sunday.

No injuries were reported, but the home was a total loss.

The cause of the fire has not been officially determined.
