The Arkansas Razorbacks’ director of operations for women’s basketball will address a conference later this month in Batesville focused on workplace safety.

The 2024 Workers’ Safety Conference is set for Thursday, Sept. 26, at the University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville (UACCB).

Amber Shirey (pictured), director of women’s basketball operations at the University of Arkansas, will be the keynote speaker at 8:15 a.m.

The event will also include an OSHA update from a U.S. Department of Labor representative, along with seminars on conflict management and heat stress prevention.

The conference is hosted by the Regional Industrial Safety Alliance (RISA), which consists of local safety professionals, the Arkansas Department of Labor and Licensing, and the U.S. Department of Labor.

Organizers say the conference aims to enhance workplace hazard recognition and strengthen a culture of workplace safety, thereby reducing employee injuries and illnesses.

While the conference is intended for hourly employees, RISA encourages area companies, public agencies, and businesses to send members of their safety committees, supervisors or managers with safety responsibilities, and any others who might benefit from basic safety training. Nursing home administrators and nurses may also use this training for continuing education purposes.
