Ebony Brown (pictured above, right, with Community Engagement Officer Ashley Engles on the left), special education paraprofessional at Batesville High School Charter, was named as the September recipient of the Citizens Bank “Above & Beyond” award.

In a release, Citizens Bank said Brown heads multiple programs that empower students with special needs.

Brown’s colleagues said of her:

  • “Ebony approaches every day with enthusiasm and a smile. She truly cares about the students that she works with every day. As the director of the Area Special Olympic games, she works hard to ensure everything is well-organized and an enjoyable experience for the athletes who compete. She brought the Partners Club to the high school, which has provided opportunities for students to work with special needs students and create an environment of acceptance and service.”
  • “Ebony goes above and beyond with anything that comes her way. She is always there for her students, and they love her as much as she loves them. No one deserves this award like she does.”
  • “There aren’t enough words to describe this very special lady. Ms. Ebony goes above and beyond daily and always puts her students first. The tireless hours she puts in her class, her student Partners Club, and the Special Olympics are unbelievable. The love and the passion she has for what she does is clearly evident.”

Since 2012, Citizens Bank and the Batesville School District have recognized staff members who go “above and beyond” to realize the district’s mission to empower today’s students for tomorrow’s challenges. Staff in all schools and departments throughout the district nominate award recipients, who receive a Certificate of Excellence, a $25 gift card and a 16-ounce insulated cup from Citizens Bank. The award is presented at the Batesville School Board meeting each month.
