Lyon College men’s soccer falls at Rhodes in Memphis 2-0

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Lyon College Scots dropped a 2-0 decision to Rhodes College in Memphis on Sunday afternoon.

The Scots (2-3-2) gave up one goal in the first half in the 41st minute and another in the 75th minute.

According to Rhodes’s statistics, Lyon had six shots at the goal, one of which was on goal.

Nate Peterson took one shot, Erik Oliveira had two shots, Gustavo Giesbrecht had one shot, which was on goal, and Tomas Biasi and Lucca Torres each had a shot in the match.

Scots volleyball sweeps tri-match to start 2-0 in SLIAC play

BATESVILLE, Ark. — Lyon College volleyball defeats Webster and Spalding to start unbeaten in SLIAC conference play.

The first match for the Scots was against Spalding at 10 a.m. and saw the Scots defeat the Eagles by a final of 3-1.

The Scots played again against Webster, and in that match, they defeated the Gorloks by a final score of 3-0.

The Scots will return to action on the road next Thursday when they travel to Blackburn College for a 6 p.m. start.

Howard Payne defeats Lyon College 41-14

BATESVILLE, Ark. – The Howard Payne Yellow Jackets took a 38-0 first half lead on Lyon College, but the Scots fought back for two second half touchdowns in a 41-14 loss at Batesville High School on Saturday night.

The Scots (1-2, 0-1) stepped out of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) this week and had some individuals come on strong with two second half touchdowns, which came in the fourth quarter.

With 13:26 left in the game, quarterback Grayson Johnson scored on a five-yard keeper and Jesus Romero-Castillo added the extra point.

A few minutes later, Reggie Brown II caught a 28-yard perfectly thrown pass from Johnson for a touchdown, and with Romero-Castillo’s PAT, Lyon College closed to within 38-14 at the 7:54 mark.

Johnson threw for 116 yards on 10-of-18 passing and had one touchdown and two interceptions. Christian Barber was 9-of-21 for 57 yards and one interception on the night.

Jaylin Babers led the Scots rushing attack with 13 carries for 26 yards, while Grayson had seven rushes for 23 yards. Aedan Huntsman had five carries for four yards.

Receiving for Lyon College, Brown caught five passes for 72 yards and a touchdown, Babers had four catches for 49 yards, Javarion Williams had three receptions for 17 yards,

Huntsman had two catches for 12 yards, Cedric Allen had two catches for 11 yards, Xavier Long had one reception for eight yards, while Donovan Jordan and Noah Osborne had one catch each.

Michael Wingo had nine tackles to lead the Scots defense, Keidrick Wooten had eight solo tackles and two sacks, Kirby Jackson, Jr. had five tackles and two sacks, Mason Davis, Rian King, Hearsey McCrady and Nate Saver all had four tackles. Sarver also had a sack in his totals. Rene Dominique, Tanner Pollett, Xyiah Spencer-Cole and Slayton Wheeler had three tackles each.

Lyon College had a net total of 174 yards passing in the game and 201 yards of total offense, and the Scots had four turnovers.

Lyon College returns to Batesville High School field next Saturday for a 2 p.m. kickoff against Texas Luther of the SCAC.

Women’s volleyball: Scots defeat Crowley Ridge

BATESVILLE, Ark. — Lyon College volleyball hosted the Pioneers of Crowley’s Ridge College on Sept. 17.

The match started at 6 p.m. and saw the Scots (6-1) defeat the Pioneers (1-3) in three straight sets at Becknell Gymnasium by final scores of 25-18, 25-19, and 25-15.

Stat leaders for the Scots included sophomore middle blocker Keeley Beary, who led the Scots in both kills (8) and blocks (1). Sophomore defensive specialist Marti Flores led the Scots in digs (10), and senior outside hitter Kylee Sabella posted six digs of her own while also tying with sophomore defensive specialist Olivia Locke, as they each put up three aces.

Freshman setter Caroline Snow also had a great performance, leading the Scots in assists (13) while also garnering four digs.

University of the Ozarks slips past Lyon College men’s soccer 2-1

BATESVILLE, Ark. – The Lyon College men’s soccer Scots dropped a 2-1 decision on Sept. 17 to the University of the Ozark Eagles.

The game moved venues from Huser Field to the football turf practice field for day due to extremely wet conditions.

Although it was bright and sunny out, water was still an issue for slipping and sliding on the turf for both teams. The Scots managed to get a goal on the board at the 25:23 mark when Eric Oliveria’s header went off of a Ozark player and in the net to make it 1-0.

Ozarks came back to tie the contest to tie the contest at the 35:54 mark of the first half 1-1. The Eagles got their second goal in the 80th minute of the game to take a 2-1 lead.

Oliveria had five shots at the goal and one on-goal header. Mathes Nunes had a shot, Gustavo Giesbrecht had two shots and Traviss Ragan had a shot as did Joao Barros. Lucas Crivilatti had two shots and Filipe Santana de Oliveria had two shots and one on-goal kick. Tiago Donadon had a shot on-goal as well for the Scots.
