James Henry (J.H.) Allen of Grubbs, Arkansas peacefully left this world to be with his Heavenly Father and Savior on Thursday, September 19, 2024, at 93.

J.H. was born December 27, 1930, in Tuckerman, Arkansas to Moses Henry and Mabel (Lancaster) Allen.  J.H. graduated from Tuckerman High School in 1948.  He worked for Brown Jordan/ American Lantern for 38 years, retiring in 1992.  J.H. married June (Williams) Allen, the love of his life, on September 26, 1958.  J.H. and June went on to have three sons.  J.H. was a very godly man and was a dedicated member of Ballews Chapel Church since 1945.

J.H. always had a quick wit you never knew what he was going to say.  He would say he was “a gentleman and a scholar” or “How is your conduct?  Mine is above reproach” He loved his family and always showed it!  He and June always took all 5 grandchildren camping each summer, so brave!  No words describe his love for watching his kids play ball.  He enjoyed hunting and was a lifelong outdoorsman and was lucky enough to have killed a deer at the age of 91.  He loved playing cards and was a great card player.  It was known that when the family visited, a card game would occur.  In his younger days, he enjoyed serving as a coach to the award-winning Ballews Chapel Bible Bowl team.  In addition to his parents, J.H. was preceded in death by his twin sisters, Billie Dean Curnow, Betty Jean Williams, his son, Ross Allen Williams and stepmother, Lucille Runyon Allen.

J.H. is survived by his wife, June; his sons, Danny Allen and Mike Allen; and his very special daughter-in-law, Lisa Allen; his grandchildren, Jadyn Pretty (Dustin), Sheena Gammon (Kyle), Rhianna Baughn (Jordan), Orrie Allen, and Josh Allen (Faith); great-grandchildren,  Daniel Pretty, Delaney Pretty, baby girl Pretty (due February), Madison Allen, Connor Gammon, Emeri Baughn, Easton Baughn, Everleigh Baughn, Nate Allen, Blaise Allen, Nathan Buchanan, Jensen Allen, and Rory Allen; his niece, Dina Curnow; his nephews, David Williams and Doug Curnow; and many great and great great nieces and nephews.

J.H. and June enjoyed life together, they were often referred to as “teenagers” because they were constantly on the go!  They knew the specials and the food menu at every restaurant within 100 miles.  Last September June and J.H. celebrated their 65th anniversary with a Branson trip. When asked if they needed a driver, J.H.’s response was “I do not need a chaperone!”  You never knew when or where you would see that little blueberry car.  J.H. was the fixer of the family.  He spent a lot of time running errands, rescuing people and taking care of and worrying about his loved ones.  He was the most honest, godly and intelligent man

A special thank you to Amber Estes for being a great caretaker to J.H.
