Lonoke County crash claims life of Batesville woman

UPDATE: A second person has died of their injuries sustained in this crash.

A Batesville woman was killed in a highway accident over the weekend that also injured five others.

According to a fatality report from the Arkansas State Police, Agueda Carrillo Mata, 53, was a passenger in a Dodge Ram that had parked on the right shoulder of U.S. Highway 67 in Lonoke County early Sunday morning, Sept. 29.

The report said a northbound semi struck the Ram, causing the semi’s fuel tank to burst and ignite both vehicles. The Ram, pushed into a ditch by the semi, rolled over, ejecting its passengers. Three passengers were injured, as were two people who had been standing outside the truck when the semi struck it.

Road and weather conditions were reported as dry and clear at the time of the accident, which occurred at 12:28 a.m.
