A second person involved in a weekend highway accident has died from injuries sustained in the crash.

According to Arkansas State Police, Jose Salas De La Cruz, 54, a passenger in a Dodge Ram that was struck by a semi on U.S. Highway 67 in Lonoke County early Sunday, Sept. 29, has died.

A Batesville woman was also killed in the crash, which injured four others.

According to a fatality report from Arkansas State Police, Agueda Carrillo Mata, 53, was a passenger in the Ram, which had parked on the right shoulder of U.S. Highway 67 early Sunday morning.

The report said a northbound semi struck the Ram, causing the semi’s fuel tank to burst and ignite both vehicles. The Ram was pushed into a ditch by the semi and rolled over, ejecting its passengers. Two people standing outside the truck were also injured.

Road and weather conditions were reported as dry and clear at the time of the crash, which occurred at 12:28 a.m.
