Mattie Ball, 85, of Newport, passed peacefully from this life on October 13, 2024. Born in Newport on June 16, 1939, she was the daughter of Lee Roy and Hazel Leona (Varnell) Taylor. Mattie spent her life rooted in faith, family, and community, and she will be remembered for the love and joy she brought to all who knew her.

A dedicated member of the Salado Baptist Church, Mattie’s faith was a guiding force in her life. She found peace in the quiet moments spent in prayer, as well as in the simple joys of daily life. She had a passion for both fishing and cooking, two activities that brought her happiness and connected her to those she loved. Her family and friends will especially remember her for her homemade dumplings and fried pies, which became a hallmark of her hospitality and warmth.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 65 years, George Ball, who passed away just six days prior. The closeness of their passing speaks to the deep bond they shared—a love that transcended time and space. Together again, they leave behind a legacy of love and devotion. She was also preceded by her parents; her brothers, Henry Taylor, J.R. Taylor, and Zeke Taylor; her sister, Robbie Lee Yates.

She was survived by her son, Dale Ball (Beth) of Newport; her daughters, Robbie Brightwell (Mark) of Bella Vista and Wanda Lusk of North Little Rock; her grandchildren, Jonathan Goldman (Jeri), Zachary Goldman (Amanda), Jarrod Brightwell (Hayley), Melissa Moore (Nick), Taylor Ball (Neida); great-grandchildren, Asher Brightwell, Judah Brightwell, Maylie Gates, Lily Sterling, Kam Moore, Sebastian Ball, Elle Goldman, and Ridge Goldman. Though her presence will be deeply missed, the memories she leaves behind will remain a source of comfort and strength.

Service will be at 11:00 on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at Dillinger Funeral Home Chapel.  Visitation will be from 10:00 until service time.
