Gladys Marie Atkins Robinson, 80, of Newport passed from this life on October 26, 2024. She was born in Texarkana, Arkansas on July 27, 1944, to Frank Atkins and Anna Mae (Wesson) Brandon.
Gladys, a devoted member of her community and a woman of unwavering dedication, passed away after a long and meaningful life. She worked in Environmental Services at Harris Hospital for an incredible 43 years, where her hard work, attention to detail, and commitment to cleanliness contributed to the well-being of countless patients, staff, and visitors. Gladys took great pride in her work, and her reliability and strong work ethic made her a beloved colleague who left a lasting impact on all who worked alongside her.
A woman of deep faith, Gladys was of the Methodist belief and a dedicated member of St. Paul AME Church. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life, providing her with strength and guidance throughout the years. She was actively involved in church activities, lending her time and heart to support her fellow church members and her broader faith community. Her spiritual life was further enriched by her involvement with the Eastern Star, Chapter 4:10, where she formed strong bonds of friendship and sisterhood. Through her faith and her service, she embodied the values of kindness, charity, and devotion to others.
Outside of her work and faith, Gladys was deeply committed to her family. She was a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend. Her family was the center of her world, and she found immense joy in gathering them around her table for meals that were lovingly prepared. Cooking was one of her great passions, and she was known for sharing delicious meals and treasured recipes with her loved ones. Additionally, Gladys had a love for bowling, and she spent many happy hours at the lanes, enjoying friendly competition and camaraderie.
Gladys’ legacy is one of love, service, and faith. Her warmth, generosity, and dedication will be remembered by all who knew her. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and the community she touched over the years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepson, Clinton Wesley; her sister, Lorene Lacy; and a special niece who knew her as mom, April Tidwell Miller.
She is survived by her daughters, Deborah Robinson, of the home; Anita Robinson Ward (Keith) of Hampton Georgia, and their father, Robert Robinson; her brothers, Alvie Tidwell of Newport, Joseph Brandon of Newport and Eric Brandon of Georgia; her grandchildren, Derek Robinson (Alexis), Robert Robinson (Alexis), Mannie Lowery (Destini); special niece and nephews who knew her as grandma, Cordairo Tidwell (Brittany), Chasity Black (Cedric), Jordan Mabry (Madeline) twelve great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Kevin Robinson, Lamont Perkins, Ryan Armstrong, Barry Robinson, Norman Elston and Wendell Green. Honorary pallbearers are Derek Robinson, Mannie Lowery Jr., Robert Robinson, Jordan Mabry, Cordairo Tidwell, and Lawrence Stubblefield.
