Obituary: James Gregory “Greg” Holcombe

James Gregory “Greg” Holcombe of Newark, Arkansas, departed this life on Friday, October 25, 2024, at the age of 66. He was born in Little Rock on January 9, 1958, the son of James Cliff and Peggy Louise Rice (Blythe) Holcombe.

Greg was a 1976 graduate of Newark High School. Later that year on December 29, 1976, he married Miss Linda Gail Akins, and together they shared forty-seven wonderful years together. Greg worked for GDX Automotive in Batesville until his retirement. He also worked on the farm alongside his father-in-law. Greg was a devoted member of Newark Church of Christ and also attended Mt. Zion Church of Christ.

Greg was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing and hunting, especially dove, deer, and rabbit. He loved a good game of poker and camping. Greg enjoyed grilling out and was known to make the best steaks using Wicker’s marinade. Above all, he adored his family more than anything. He cherished their time spent together and loved his grandchildren.

Mr. Holcombe was preceded in death by one daughter, Alyssa Holcombe; his brothers, Ricky Holcombe and Terry Holcombe; one sister, Janet Banks; and his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Linda (Akins) Holcombe, of the home; two daughters, Shandra Ingles and husband, Steven, of Prairie Grove and Amanda Pratt and husband, Roger Pratt, Sr., of Newark; and his two grandchildren, Roger Pratt, Jr. and Adalyn Ingles.

Funeral services for Mr. Holcombe will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 28, 2024, at Newark Church of Christ, with Mr. Frank Wells officiating. Interment will follow in Holcombe Cemetery. Friends may visit Jackson’s Newark Funeral Home on Sunday evening, 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
